North Las Vegas Police Investigate Drowning Death

North Las Vegas Police are investigating the death of a one-year-old girl. Authorities were told the girl was the victim of some kind of drowning incident, but they have now launched a full investigation until all of the facts are known.

The first word authorities had of any trouble was when a woman, possibly the girl's mother, arrived on foot with the child at a medical complex next to the North Vista Hospital. She said the girl had drowned in a bucket.

Police say the girl was unresponsive and was immediately transported to UMC by ambulance where she was pronounced dead.

"Now our detectives are out here at this point trying to determine what occurred. We know we have this story of the person who brought the child in, but of course this is a death investigation. It will be treated the same way we do any other death investigation until we determine whether this was an accident or neglect or homicide or whatever it would be," said Metro Sgt. Tim Bedwell.

The incident allegedly occurred at the Twin Acres Mobile Home Park on east Tonopah Avenue, about a block away from the medical office. Throughout the afternoon, North Las Vegas Police Detectives could be seen walking in and out of the mobile home where the family lived.

Authorities used the chain of events to send this message, "It is really important for everyone to remember that common household hazards that seem to innocuous to us around the house can be fatal to children."

Police say they will likely not know more about what happened to the girl until the Clark County Coroner completes an autopsy. That could occur as soon as Friday.

So far, no charges have been filed in this case.
