Students at Coronado High School aren't just creating pieces of art, they are taking them to the country's largest Glass Craft and Bead Expo at the South Point Hotel in April. The students are winning scholarships and even thinking of careers in art.
Student Michelle Powelson won one of the scholarships. "I'm working on a thick bowl right now where you have to cut it into tiny squares or lines or whatever you want. It's a new form of art that's becoming really popular."
Michelle won a scholarship to take a class at the Glass Craft and Bead Expo. The class would normally cost a few hundred dollars.
The school system depends on donations of scrap glass, kilns and other equipment.
The Bead Craft and Glass expo is open to the public April 3rd to the 5th at the South Point Hotel and Casino.
