A SHOT WORTH GETTING
My mother had a very painful case of shingles several years ago, probably due to the stress of my father's longterm illness. She was in terrible pain.
The medical name of shingles is "herpes zoster", and is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox, the varicella virus. Anyone who's had chickenpox can get shingles.
It causes a skin rash, and appears most frequently in people 50 and older.
You don't want to get it! The pain is indescribable. Your family doctor can advise you the vaccine.
I've provided a link to the Center for Disease Control, which goes into detail on the virus, and the vaccine. There's also a list of FAQ's.
Unfortunately, if you have already had a case of shingles, the vaccine won't help.Comments Terms of Use: We welcome your participation in our community. Please keep your comments civil and on point. You must be at least 13 years of age to post comments. By submitting a comment, you agree to these
