Eyewitness News found a group of folks bringing some good times to kids living in hard times at Martinez Elementary School.
Once a month, the kids here are treated like rock stars. After all, it's their birthday, or at least the month their birthday falls in. For many of these at-risk kids they have never had a party and certainly not one like this.
Patti Whipple is the President of Junior League of Las Vegas, "What we enjoy is giving the children an opportunity to have something that they don't get to have in their every day life. What seems so simple to all of us, a birthday party, is not something most of these children get to enjoy."
The Junior League of Las Vegas throws these parties once a month at Martinez Elementary. The kids get to play games, paint their faces, and receive a birthday gift of their choice.
This is the fifth year the Junior League of Las Vegas has been throwing birthday parties. They hope to extend the program to other at-risk schools in the valley.
