Officials Warn of Mountain Fire Danger

Updated:

Fire officials on Mount Charleston have some words of caution for people who might be heading up to the mountain for the holiday weekend.

The Bureau of Land Management says all fireworks, even the safe and sane ones, are illegal on federal and public land. Strict fire restrictions are in place and officials say with the dry and hot weather in the desert, even the smallest spark can start a brush fire.

"It's very dry in the low desert. I'm not speaking for the high mountain areas but the desert in which the BLM is responsible for Red Rock is extremely dry and burnable and we're very concerned," said Fire Management Officer Kevin Oliver, BLM.

The current fire restrictions call for no smoking, no campfires, no fireworks and no parking in tall grass.
