NV "Stimulus Czar" Goes to Legislative Panel

Updated:

The Board of Examiners has forwarded Gov. Jim Gibbons' proposal to fund a "stimulus czar" to keep tabs on money coming from federal stimulus grants to the Legislature's Interim Finance Committee.

Without a specific endorsement, the three-member panel chaired by the Republican governor voted unanimously to forward Gibbons' recommendation to the legislative panel that meets Aug. 3.

Budget Director Andrew Clinger says the $257,709 requested for the rest of the fiscal year is needed to hire a coordinator and an executive assistance to ensure stringent reporting and monitoring requirements are met for the $2 billion in federal stimulus funds flowing into Nevada.

The board also endorsed seeking $251,220 from the IFC's contingency fund for a grant writer and a graduate assistant to coordinate and seek federal funds for health information technology planning.
