Las Vegas NowReid Introduces Bill to End Travel 'Blacklist'
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has introduced a bill to prevent federal agencies from ruling out tourist destinations as places to hold official meetings.
The Democrat from Nevada introduced the bill on Wednesday, called the Protecting Resort Cities from Discrimination Act of 2009.
The bill follows outrage from Reid and other lawmakers last week after reports that agencies, acting on guidance dating back to last year and before, were avoiding locations with reputations as tourist destinations because of their reputations.
Earlier this week, Reid told cabinet secretaries and the heads of all federal agencies to get in line with White House views articulated in an earlier letter to Reid from Rahm Emanuel, President Barack Obama's chief of staff.
