The Clark County Department of Air Quality and Environmental Monitoring has issued a dust advisory for the Las Vegas area, citing predictions of wind gusts over 45 mph.
The advisory for Thursday afternoon and evening asks construction site operators to take precautions to prevent blowing dust.
The National Weather Service reported winds of 24 mph gusting to 40 mph just before noon at McCarran International Airport.
It has issued a Red Flag fire warning through 9 p.m. in southern Nevada, with hot temperatures and low humidity predicted.
The county advisory says airborne dust can aggravate respiratory diseases such bronchitis or asthma. It says children, the elderly and those with respiratory diseases should stay indoors.
