Danny Tarkanian to Challenge Harry Reid

Updated:

Danny Tarkanian, a former UNLV basketball player and Secretary of State candidate, has announced his candidacy for United States Senate, running against current Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Tarkanian has launched a website that solicits funds and has a short introduction video.

In a statement, Tarkanian said, "I am certainly not a Washington insider, but speaking just as a Nevadan, I'm very concerned about the direction Senator Reid is taking us in Washington. We simply cannot continue to allow our federal government to borrow, spend and bail out entire industries at the expense of future generations of Nevadans."

Tarkanian most recently ran for Nevada State Senate in 2008, losing to Senator Mike Schneider. He then won a libel lawsuit against Schneider for claims made during their heated race.
