Search for Calif. Man at Lake Mohave is Suspended

Updated:

The National Park Service has suspended dive operations in the search for a 50-year-old Lawndale, Calif., man who presumably drowned Sunday afternoon at Lake Mohave.

Rangers will continue a daily search of the area by boat for Gerardo Escobedo.

Authorities said Escobedo drowned near the mid-channel of the lake where water depths vary between 90 to 110 feet.

Bullhead City Fire Department divers dove where Escobedo was last seen Sunday, and Bullhead City Police Department divers dove on Monday without success.

Searchers also used an underwater camera and sonar.

According to witnesses the man jumped into the water to retrieve a lost hat. He went underwater and has not been seen since.

Escobedo wasn't wearing a life jacket.
