Lawyer: Man Content with Settlement in Police Suit

Updated:

An attorney for a man who filed a wrongful death lawsuit over the fatal shooting of his wife by a Henderson police officer says his client is content with the settlement reached.

Attorney Marc Saggese says he filed documents in the $700,000 settlement with U.S. District Court on Friday.

He says the settlement will allow ice cream truck driver Zyber Selimaj to move forward with his life, even though he is not fully satisfied because he lost his wife.

Deshira Selimaj was shot in 2008 as she was attempting to help her Armenian-born husband communicate with police after he was pulled over. A coroner's inquest jury later ruled the shooting justified.

Henderson spokeswoman Kathleen Richards said Thursday the city stands by the inquest's outcome but that city officials thought it was best to settle.
