Gibbons Appoints Harvey as Stimulus Director

Updated:

Gov. Jim Gibbons has appointed a county employee from Las Vegas as Nevada's new stimulus director, charged with overseeing the $2.2 billion in federal funds designated for the state.

Gibbons announced Tuesday that he had hired Charles Harvey, the current assistant county recorder for Clark County.

Gibbons says in a statement that Harvey will have an immediate positive impact given his experience as a business owner and public servant.

Gibbons signed an executive order last week to take control of the money coming into the state, and challenged the Democrat-controlled Legislature to sue.

A legislative committee approved the position earlier this month, but took the position out of the governor's office and put it into the state controller's office.
