The state Department of Education says Nevada high school seniors who took the Scholastic Aptitude Test this year met the national average in critical reading, but lagged in math and writing.
Nevada students and those nationally had an average reading score of 501.
Nevada students averaged 506 in math, compared with 515 nationally; and 479 in writing, compared with a national scoring average of 493.
Education officials say 6,846 Nevada public high school seniors took the SAT this year, for a participation rate of 42-percent.
That's up from 36-percent in 2003, and 17 percent in 1982.
