A 19-year-old Henderson woman accused of killing her newborn baby had disposed of another baby in 2006.
Carmela Camero is facing a murder charge after giving birth to a baby boy at her home on Sunday and then allegedly suffocating the child to hide her pregnancy from her mother. According to the arrest report, Camero told police she put the baby to her breast to smother him. She told police she was hiding the pregnancy from her mother.
Police sources say Camero gave birth to a girl in 2006. The baby was found in among trash at the Mirage. That was baby was stillborn so Camero was not charged. She was 16 years old at the time.
In this recent case, police say the child was born alive and then killed.
"We went to the house Monday and found that the newborn was dead. At that point, we started a death investigation," said Keith Paul, Henderson Police spokesman.
Police want to remind parents that there are options for unwanted newborns. There is a Safe Haven law that will let parents surrender a baby up to 30 days old at fire stations, hospitals and police departments.
