NV Governor Orders Flags Lowered for Soldier

Updated:

Flags at the state Capitol Complex will be flown at half-staff Tuesday in honor of a Fernley soldier killed in Iraq.

Gov. Jim Gibbons issued the order on Friday to honor Army Pfc. Thomas Lyons. The 20-year-old soldier died Tuesday when an enemy explosion hit the truck he was riding in north of Baghdad. Services for Lyons are scheduled Tuesday at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial in Fernley.

His wife, Delvin, is also an active duty soldier, and both were stationed at Fort Richardson in Alaska. The couple had their first child this spring.

Two other soldiers, also from Fort Richardson, died in the attack. They were identified as Staff Sgt. Shannon M. Smith of Marion, Ohio, and Pfc. Zachary T. Myers of Delaware, Ohio.
