Authorities say a former North Las Vegas police officer agreed to plead guilty to reduced charges stemming from allegations he sought dates and sexual favors from women he stopped for traffic violations.

A prosecutor and defense lawyer said Wednesday that 40-year-old James Vernon Clayton agreed to plead guilty Sept. 30 in Clark County District Court to three attempted misconduct by a police officer charges and two oppression under color of office charges.

Prosecutor Stacy Kollins says Clayton could face up to one year in county jail on each of the five misdemeanors.

Clayton was arrested Dec. 23 on five felony misconduct, two felony oppression under color of office and one misdemeanor indecent exposure charge.

He was a North Las Vegas police officer from 2005 until he was fired Jan. 28.
