Las Vegas NowNV Agencies Report Stimulus Spending Directly
After political sparring over Nevada's stimulus director, the man picked for the job by Gov. Jim Gibbons says state agencies will report their spending directly to the federal government, instead of through his office.
Charles Harvey says he is working with agencies to make sure their reports are filed by the Oct. 10 deadline. His office will then go over copies provided to him and the state budget office to ensure their accuracy during another 10-day grace period.
Harvey also says the notion of a "centralized" reporting point may need to be re-evaluated.
Gibbons in August took control of the $2.2 billion in federal stimulus dollars Nevada is to receive through executive order and hired Harvey, after Democrat lawmakers put the position in the state controller's office.
