Officers Raising Money for Police Unity Tour

Updated:

Just this past week hundreds were on hand to pay their respect and say goodbye to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Milburn Beitel. Officer Beitel died in the line of duty after being involved in an accident over a week ago.

On Saturday, local members of the "Police Unity Tour" were in Henderson washing cars to raise money for the 2010 Police UnityTour.

The primary purpose of the Police Unity Tour is to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty. The secondary purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial & Museum.

In 2010, riders from both southern and northern Nevada will be riding for Officer Beitel as well as Officer James Manor, who was killed in a accident in May of this year. Each officer's name will be placed on the wall in Washington D.C. during National Law Enforcement Week.

Each rider needs to raise $1700 in order to participate in the tour. The car wash fundraiser Saturday was just one way these officers try to raise money for the tour. The ride from New Jersey to Washington D.C. takes place in early May 2010.

The motto for the Unity Tour is "We ride for those who died."
