K-9 units are a big part of police departments across the country. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's K-9 unit is one of the top in the country, and Sunday they went up against the best from across the country for the honor of top dog.
Forty teams took part in the 19th annual Las Vegas Police K-9 Trials at The Orleans Arena Sunday.
From running through dark tunnels to jumping and climbing walls on command , for these officers and their handlers following each others every move on the job is what can protect them both from getting hurt. The handlers say every day is a training day and their bonds start at an early age.
Many of the dogs here are trained to go after the bad guy and during the competition some could not resist that urge as protectively stuffed decoys stood in the arena. Many who came to watch the competition say the occasional bloopers keep handlers on their toes and can make things fun to watch.
