I-Team: Silver State Students See Some Debts Erased

Posted: Updated:

The Channel 8 I-Team has learned students of a former local helicopter school that went bankrupt will have some of the loan debts erased.

Attorneys General from 12 states, including Nevada, negotiated an agreement for students of Silver State Helicopters.

Former Clark County Sheriff candidate Jerry Airola operated the school. He abruptly closed the school last year, leaving thousands of students with large loans and none of the training or certifications they were promised.

Under the deal, $113 million of the $147 million in student debts will be erased and the information will not be negatively reported against students' credit reports.

Airola is facing other charges related to the company's bankruptcy.
