More than 110 children nationwide have died from the H1N1 flu virus causing parents to be concerned. So far, no Clark County children have died but many parents lined up at the health district Monday to get their children vaccinated.
"I just didn't want to put it off any longer, procrastinating and I was getting worried about what I was hearing on the news and everything so I just decided to go ahead and do it," said Darrin Henry, father.
The line was long Monday morning as people began lining up outside the Southern Nevada Health District for the H1N1 flu mist. Many of those in line were parents with their children. Monday was a holiday for Nevada school children making it a good opportunity for parents to get the vaccination.
"I just felt like the benefits far outweighed the risks. As a parent, I wouldn't know what to do if they happen to be in that small percentage that had to be hospitalized or anything like that," said Mary Siciliano, a concerned mother.
Currently, the only available vaccination for H1N1 is a flu mist form and those in certain high-risk groups are advised not to use the mist. The health district is expecting more injectable vaccines to arrive this week. The district plans to hold a two-day clinic shortly after the vaccine arrives so that everyone in the priority group has a chance to be vaccinated.
The district does have about 20,000 doses of flu mist available.
