LAS VEGAS -- For cashier Rebecca Morgan, with every sale comes a squirt of hand sanitizer. Morgan keeps it right at her check stand.
She says because she exchanges money, coupons, and groceries with people, she sanitizes in-between customers. "All the items we've touched, they've touched. Not only have they touched them, but someone else before -- whoever stocked the item -- so the company has made us very conscious of it," she said.
It's what many people called their swine flu etiquette -- the right to keep a safe distance, avoid handshakes and wipe down anything that could be crawling with germs.
Customers say they're wiping down shopping carts. "I don't want any germs. I don't want to get sick from other people," said Karen Zola.
They're also stocking up on hand sanitizer. If someone looks or sounds sick, most are practicing avoidance. "If I hear someone or see someone sneezing, I think I don't want to be by that person," said shopper Susan Beall.
While they don't see themselves at paranoid, some people are changing their behavior and the way they interact with others. "If I see someone that is coughing or acts like they have a cold or are sick, I try and get away from them has fast as possible," said shopper Retha David.
Before working out, Thad Gormley says he completely disinfects his machine. He's careful at the gym and at work. "A lot of times people want to hand you things after they have tissue in one hand, and so I'm polite but when they leave I automatically do my pen, my keys," he said.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention says the best way to stop the spread of the regular flu or H1N1 is to cover your mouth, use your sleeve, keep your hands away from your face and stay away from people who are sick.
