LAS VEGAS (AP) - A fire official says a man with severe burns and four other people were hospitalized after an apartment fire early Wednesday in northwest Las Vegas.
Las Vegas fire spokesman Tim Szymanski (zim-ANN'-skee) says firefighters arrived at the fire about midnight and found the man outside the unit with severe burns on the upper half of his body.
Firefighters say a woman lowered two children, ages 3 and 5, to safety from a balcony after flames trapped them in the second-story apartment at a complex near Cheyenne Avenue and Rancho Drive.
They were treated for smoke inhalation, along with a neighbor who helped get people out.
Investigators say the fire appears to have started in the kitchen.
