Health District Reports 2 New H1N1 Deaths, Schedules Vaccination Clinics

Posted: Updated:

The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting two additional deaths for the week ending on October 31, 2009.

The patients were a 61-year-old woman and a 44-year-old-woman.  Both had underlying medical conditions.

In the meantime, the health district is holding two H1N1 immunization clinics this weekend. They will be offering shots and the inhaled mist to people who are in the priority groups. Those groups include pregnant women, health care and emergency medical services personnel who have direct patient contact, children and young adults between the ages of 6 months to 24-years-old and children 18-years-old and under who have underlying medical conditions.

"We anticipate there will be a high demand for the injectable vaccine at this weekend's clinics and so we are again urging those in the priority groups who can take the intranasal vaccine to do so. This will help to ensure we have enough injectable vaccine to meet the needs of those in the high risk group unable to receive FluMist, including pregnant women and very young children." said Dr. Lawrence Sands, chief health officer.

District officials say the injectible vaccine will only be offered to those who can not take the inhaled vaccine.

The clinics take place at the following locations:

  • Health District, 625 Shadow Lane from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Henderson Public Health Center, 520 E. Lake Mead Pkwy. from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
