The busiest shopping day of the year, Black Friday, is exactly three weeks away. But some stores are giving you a jumpstart on holiday shopping to beat the rush.
Normally at this time on a Friday night, Kohl's department store would be dark. Right now, it's open for business. They've barely put away the Halloween decorations and Christmas is already on some minds.
Kohl's is keeping its doors open longer with a midnight close for the next three Fridays and Saturdays. "I think it's exciting. It gives me more time to shop," said shopper Nicole Cureton.
While some can't believe that time of the year arrives earlier, the garland is hanging, the trees decorated, and the ornaments on sale.
Ida McDaniel is browsing for bargains, but not buying yet. "I'll probably start Thanksgiving. I don't buy very expensive because I cannot afford it," said Cureton.
Signs entice customers with sales of 50 and 60-percent off and for good reason. The National Retail Federation says shoppers will spend just over $682 on holiday-related items this year. That's down from last year's $705, or about 3-percent in our down economy. "You can't help but do that, so that's why you have to hit stores like this when you have the really good sales," said shopper Roneeta Cureton.
Others want to avoid the upcoming frenzy and enjoy their shopping space while they can. "It's out of control, so if you beat the crowd it's a lot easier," said Cureton.
Kohl's says it's giving customers incentives in tough times. "We don't even have the turkeys bought and it's already time now to think about Christmas, so that's far from my mind right now," said shopper Early Roman.
Those gifts are waiting to be bought if you're ready for some early Christmas cheer. If you're an early bird, bargain hunters can show up for tomorrow's 6 A.M.
