NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) - North Las Vegas city officials are planning a full-scale disaster drill simulating an earthquake and the release of a toxic ammonia cloud.

The Tuesday exercise begins at noon at U.S. Foodservice off Cheyenne Avenue near Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Officials say theatrical smoke may be seen in the area, along with emergency vehicles from various agencies.

The cityÂ’s Emergency Operations Center will be activated to coordinate mock evacuations and victim decontamination until about 4 p.m.

Area police, ambulance and fire departments will participate with health, utility, hospital, school and transportation agencies, the American Red Cross, and volunteer Homeland Security reserve members.

Officials say the exercise fills training requirements under the federal Department of Homeland Security.
