Parents Delinquent on Child Support Offered Holiday Deal

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS, Nv. -- Parents who are behind on their child support payments are being offered a limited amnesty on their debts.

The Clark County District Attorney's Office is offering a Home for the Holidays program that will allow non-custodial parents who have child-support bench warrants and or suspended driver's license to meet with a case manager and negotiate a one-time payment agreement. This will eliminate the warrant and/or reinstate their driver's license.

"We want to be able to put turkey dinner on the table for kids and also want non-custodial parents to step up and do the right thing. In turn, we will help with their warrants and drivers license," said D.A. David Roger.

There are 760 outstanding warrants and 4,100 suspended licenses for those who failed to make payments.

"When you collecting unemployment, it's even harder to make the payments," said James, who was taking advantage of the amnesty.

Delinquent parents can go to the division's office at 301 Clark Ave., Las Vegas. The office is in downtown Las Vegas across 3rd street from the Regional Justice Center. The program will operate from Nov. 16th through Nov. 21st between 8 a.m.  to 5 p.m. (Cash, money order or a cashier's check will be accepted.)
