
Musician Carlos Santana made a pledge to fight hunger in Las Vegas on Thursday as he toured the Three Square Food Bank.
Local food banks are feeling the effects of the economy. Donations are down and the food lines are getting longer.
CEO Julie Murray at the Three Square Food bank says they are seeing a significant demand for food from the 270 non-profit agencies they help with food donations. One agency is reporting turkey donations for Thanksgiving are down nearly 50 percent.
Santana is asking all his concert goers to bring 5 canned items for donation to his concert. The food will be given to Three Square Food Bank.
Catholic Charities is also seeing an increase in need. They have seen a 25 percent jump in the clients they serve daily.
Last year, they gave out 3,500 turkeys to family in need on Thanksgiving. Director Philip Hollon says this year their turkey donations are down 50 percent.
