H1N1 Vaccines Headed to 314 Private Providers

Posted: Updated:

Pharmacies and doctors around the valley are waiting to get their supply of the H1N1 vaccine which some say could be delivered any day.

Currently, right now, there are 314 private providers in Southern Nevada signed up to get the vaccine and 67 of those are pharmacies. Local clinics and doctors say they expect to play a big role in vaccinating the community.

The Minute Clinics at CVS are just one of dozens of pharmacies anxiously awaiting the arrival of the H1N1 vaccine. Instead of waiting in a long lines, clinics may be a good option for some Las Vegans.

Jack Spencer decided to try out the clinic after he woke with a sore throat and some sinus pressure. He wanted to be sure he wasn't coming down with H1N1.

"I'm going to be flying tomorrow so it did kind of cross my mind. I don't want to be putting anyone in danger," Spencer said.

In a matter of 15 minutes, Spencer was in and out of the clinic. Family nurse practitioner Deanna Duch believes it's the convenience of local pharmacies and clinics that will make a big dent in the H1N1 vaccination process.

"Our visits are quite expeditious. We try to get the patients in and out in a timely fashion and we don't have the terribly long lines that you would maybe encounter at a health district," said Duch, CVS Minute Clinic.

The clinic currently has the seasonal flu vaccine and is one of 67 pharmacies in Southern Nevada that is signed on to receive H1N1 vaccines from the state.

To make it convenient for you to find a local doctor or pharmacy with the vaccine, the state has put a list of 314 private providers on their website. The state says as the weeks roll on, more doctors continue to sign up for the vaccine program.
