(Aug. 9) -- It's a big week for the southwest to see the presidential contenders, as both President Bush and John Kerry are on the campaign trail, in our region and our city.
The Kerry-Edwards campaign toured the Grand Canyon Monday. After the tour, he jumped on a train enroute to Kingman, Arizona, where he will present his speech from on top of a flat bed truck.
Kerry's aid told Eyewitness News that this is the first time a presidential candiate has visited Kingman. After his speech, he will get on a bus and drive to Las Vegas. He is expected to arrive sometine Monday night for his appearance here Tuesday.
It was a busy day at the Nevada Democratic Party headquarters as John Kerry prepares to make his third visit to Nevada this year.
Sean Smith, with the Nevada Kerry-Edwards Campaign, says, "He wants to talk to the people of Nevada. He's not afraid to come and talk about his positions, his oppositions to Yucca Mountain, his support for real prescription drugs, his access to health care."
With Nevada considered a swing state, Democrats are working hard to sway voters.
"We have over 10,000 volunteers in Nevada working the phones everyday registering people, making phone calls trying to harness this energy making sure people go for John Edwards and John Kerry," Smith said.
President George Bush is also making a stop this week in southern Nevada. Democrats say it's because Kerry is coming here first. And Democrats say they're doing everything they can to make sure Kerry is supported.
Sean Smith continued, "I feel great about tomorrow. I think people are ready to go. We're going to have a big crowd and I am going to be sure and I am going to make sure we get there."
Kerry will also be meeting with community leaders and Tuesday morning about Yucca Mountain.
