New Technology Protects Kids from Sexual Predators

New technology is helping parents protect their kids from sexual predators. The new program is being featured at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week.

All too often there are stories of children being lured into dangerous situations on the Internet But this software will actually alert parents to what their children are doing and saying online by sending messages to the parent's cell phones.

There are half a million registered sex offenders in the United States. "We did not have nearly the temptations that children have today," said Joe Carizzo, Searchhelp.

The Internet can be a dangerous place for your child. Even the best of children can get into trouble online. Sex offenders and pornographic websites are just a single click away.

"So I wanted to build something that was not only going to protect my kids but protect other kids," said Bill Bozsnyak, who developed the computer program called Sentry at Home.

"It gives the parent the ability to see what the child is doing online and see who they are talking with," Bozsnyak said. Once the program is installed, you can watch what your child is doing online from virtually any computer in the world.

"They're loving the fact that it is very very easy," said Carrizzo. Parents can block and filter different websites and instant messaging services.

If a child tries entering a site or if some type of inappropriate keyword pops up in a chat, a parent is alerted through email and by phone.

"It's key for parents to get involved here. To make sure the kids are not misusing the Internet," Bozsnyak said. While some of the products at CES are on display only, you can find this program at number of different electronic stores. It costs about $50.
