Metro says they've received nearly 600 leads in the case of a young girl found dead in a dumpster. But none of those leads have resulted in an arrest. Jane Cordova Doe, as she is called, was murdered two weeks ago. Police have released a new photo of the child and have set up a command post where the body was discovered.

In an effort to get more information, Metro has released a new picture. Police hope this new picture will lead to the arrest of Jane Cordova Doe's killer. The new picture of the girl is not a composite but an actual photo that has only been slightly altered. The new picture was put together with help from the coroner's office and morticians.

"I anticipate us getting a break in this case. I think somebody knows something out there. Eventually they'll come forward." said Sheriff Bill Young, Metro. He is optimistic the new picture, and a new command post at the apartments, where the little girl was found will help.

"We are re-doubling our efforts. We've opened an office at the Villa Cordova apartments," Young said. Detectives are going over charts, and new plans to scour the complex and nearby neighborhoods. They have set up a command post in one of the apartments.

After following numerous leads, police now believe Jane Cordova Doe is from the neighborhood where her body was discovered in a dumpster two weeks ago.

"Everyday that goes by we get a step closer to solving the case," said Sgt. Russell Shoemaker, Metro police.

"We are going to interview every single resident again," Young said. They will also show the residents the new photo in hopes it produces a new lead. "You never know which question that'll spark that memory that'll break something for us," said Detective Dan Long, Metro police.

Police believe the child's body was put in the dumpster late Jan.11th or early Jan. 12th.

From the beginning, police have said the child is Hispanic. But some reports contradicted this. Deputy Chief Greg McCurdy cleared things up. "Culturally from what we know, she at one time had her ears pierced, and culturally we know that young Hispanic girls often get their ears pierced right away," McCurdy said.

"This little girl has nobody to speak for her. This police department will speak for her," Young said.

"There is nothing more important than putting this little angel to rest. We can't do that. She can't rest until we figure out who she is and who did this terrible thing to her," Shoemaker said.

The command post will be set up for at least a few days. Police have already received more than 500 tips. Anyone with information should call 229-LOST.
