Baby Doe Memorial Reappears

(Feb. 15) -- It has been more than a month since a little girl's body was found in a dumpster. No knows her identity and on Tuesday the makeshift memorial in her honor was taken down and that has upset some people.

Since the toddler's body was found, scores of strangers have come out to honor the girl they call "Little Angel." They have left flowers, notes and toys.

The toys were donated to charity but on Tuesday night dozens of people showed up with more candles and more toys. They hope someone will come forward and confess to the murder.

Patience Barnes said, "I have five children of my own and I wouldn't want anything to happen to them." They have never met her, but each of them finds some way to show their love." Barnes brought a candle to the memorial. She said, "It is a candle with angels on it because I feel that angels are always watching over us." Dozens of angels now sit next to the dumpster where the little girl's lifeless body was found. Nancy Wesley said, "It is very frustrating. It crosses your mind. You keep thinking about it. You see it on the news. Somebody knows something." Barnes added, "She has a story."

"It shouldn't be this way. They threw her in the trash. How she was murdered was awful," Wesley said. More than a month has passed. Barnes said, "It's been too long, someone knows something."

Jane Cordova Doe is a child we never knew, but one the community will never forget. Barnes added, "I just can't stand it anymore. I cannot stand it anymore. I hope they find her killer."

If you have any information about this case you are asked to call police at 229-LOST. Police have received more than 850 leads and they are still looking into 40 of those. However, so far none of them have led them to the girl's killer.

(Feb. 14) -- A makeshift memorial for the little girl found dead in a dumpster was moved Tuesday morning. The toys were collected and given to Peggy's Attic on the Child Haven campus to benefit children in foster care.

A month ago, Baby Jane Cordova Doe was found in a dumpster at the Villa Cordova apartment complex on Eastern and Karen. Since then people have left candles, flowers, balloons and toys in memory of the girl.

Police have followed more than 800 leads in Nevada, California and Mexico. Authorities think she was three or four years old and that she was killed by blunt trauma to her torso. They say it looks like she was cared for before being placed in the dumpster wearing a clean white fleece jacket decorated with fuzzy pink hearts.

The child's identity is still unknown.

The reward for clues leading to the identity of Baby Jane Cordova Doe is now up to $51,000.

Police say the 3-year-old was beaten to death. Authorities have received more than 800 tips in the case and are following up on each one with the hope of identifying the little girl.
