Las Vegas Says Goodbye to Crystal Figueroa

Updated:

The Las Vegas community took Crystal Figueroa to its heart when we only knew her as "Jane Cordova Doe" -- a child beaten and left dead in a dumpster. On Wednesday evening, our community came together one last time to honor the girl's memory.

People crowded into St. Anne Catholic Church and delivered emotional messages while the girl's family remembered their little angel. The family said that seeing so many people turn out for the memorial service really helps them. A memorial is set up in front of the church is another reminder to them of the support this community has for Crystal.

She is now an angel to the community but she has always been an angel to them. Crystal's father, Saul Figueroa said, "She was the most wonderful angel there was here on earth." and Roberto Figueroa said, "My heart is broke."

Family members walked hand-in-hand into the memorial. Grandmother Perez said, "I can't believe it. I found out too late but I thank God all of you were with her." Crystal's grandmother, Lilia Perez, says Crystal will live on in her heart. "I will never forget this. I will keep her memory, my girl will always be my angel."

Father Francis Timoney reminded everyone why they were there. "To celebrate this little life that touched you, that touched all of us."

After the service Crystal's grandmothers took time to embrace members of the community, a community that will always remember Crystal. Mae Sutter said, "Anything, she could have been anything. I dream for her."

Saul Figueroa says that is something he always knew about his little girl, his little angel. "She was very loveable and she would win you with one smile."

A vigil will be held Thursday night in California along with a viewing. The funeral will be held for Crystal on Friday. It, too, is in California.
