Las Vegas NowDiocese of Las Vegas Releases Statement On Fugitive Priest
Dr. Richard Facciolo, Chancellor and Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Las Vegas, confirmed that Father George Chaanine of Our Lady of Las Vegas has been suspended pending the outcome of an investigation into an alleged assault that occurred on Friday, January 26 at the parish.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department continues their search to locate Father Chaanine and is currently in the process of preparing warrants for his arrest.
"We are deeply saddened by the events that have unfolded. The Diocese is cooperating fully with the authorities in their investigation and we will continue to do everything we can to assist the authorities in their effort to locate Father Chaanine. However, at this time, it would be detrimental to the efforts of law enforcement and the people involved for us to further comment or speculate on the incident," said Dr. Facciolo.
