We hear a lot about all of the school recitals and musicals going on in our schools but hardly any of them include landing a helicopter right on the stage.
That's impressive! but what's even more impressive is the life skills the students at Las Vegas academy are learning.
If the story and song sound familiar, chances are you've seen Miss Saigon. The Tony Award winning musical is hitting the stage at Las Vegas Academy with a student run production.
Hundreds of high schoolers are making it happen from staging the sets to crafting the costumes.
There are nearly sixty performers! That's a lot of clothes and a lot of shoes. Theresa Whittle wants to make a career out of costumes. So this production is great practice.
Whether behind the stage or in front of it, kids say a production like this gets them ready for the real world. "It's the great thing about this school. Las Vegas does not have a big arts community. We do a lot of shows you wouldn't see on Broadway," said Joe Debenedetto, Las Vegas Academy senior.
Performing on Broadway is what Julian Crider dreams of. He he says if students are encouraged to pursue their dreams, it will keep them in school -- especially when your doing projects that are so cool at school.
