2 Dead, 2 Recovering After Wall Collapse at CityCenter Project

Two construction workers are recovering while crews mourn the loss of two other workers who were killed when a heavy wall fell on them. It happened at the Project CityCenter construction site.

The fire department says a crane was lowering two retaining walls, both weighing about 3,000 pounds, when the walls fell.

Two men were crushed in the collapse. Those two have been indentified as 40-year-old Bobby Lee Tohannie from Kayenta, Arizona and 24-year-old Angel Hernandez of Las Vegas. The coroner says both men died by having their torsos crushed.

A third worker was able to pull himself out, and a fourth rode the walls down, but was stable. We've learned that the two survivors were brothers.

Scott Allison, Clark County Fire Department, said, "We also know from past history these large construction projects can be very dangerous. We've lost construction workers in the past, and unfortunately, we lost two more today. So it's just another sad, serious, industrial accident."

OSHA is still investigating this accident.

MGM Mirage released the following statement sending their thoughts and prayers to the families of everyone involved.

"An accident took place on the job site at CityCenter today in which two construction workers died and two others sustained injuries. 

We will work closely with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to determine the cause of the incident. 

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the deceased workers and for the recovery of those who were injured."
