Las Vegas NowCivil Air Patrol Plane Crashes Near Las Vegas
The Federal Aviation Administration says a Civil Air Patrol plane crashed into Mount Potosi southwest of Las Vegas last night and two people on board are presumed dead.
Officials said the crash was witnessed moments after it happened by a Las Vegas police air unit. It's unknown why the Civil Air Patrol plane was flying in the area.
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said the single-engine Cessna 172 disappeared from radar about 7:15 p.m. Thursday. It was the second small plane that disappeared from local radar Thursday night. A single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza went missing at 6:37 p.m.
Authorities later learned that plane had made a successful emergency landing southeast of Jean.
