A small road crew of four paints lines on thousands of miles of roadway in Clark County each year.
Valley View between Flamingo and Spring Mountain is repainted about 2 or 3 times a year.
Paint is cheaper than Raised Pavement Markers but it needs to be refreshed. This means more jobs for this crew of four.
Dayan Brown is the maintenance supervisor for Clark County. He says his department is pro-active. They look to see what comes in every day. If something major comes up Brown will change the schedule.
Brown says, "I drive the roads every day I have family that drives the roads every day so I'm trying to make it as safe as possible."
Brown says they work as fast as they can, but besides making sure the job is done right, they have to contend with traffic. The work at night to make it easier.
Brown says, "we have no support, it's just us, agains the traffic. We all gotta watch eachother's backs as well as do the job. We've had a lot of close calls out on the roadway, a lot of people don't respect us or don't respect I have to say construction. It's a necessary evil for the growth that's going on in this town."
Brown asks drivers and citizens to be patient. Last year alone they took in 224 inquiries from the public on top of their normal routine maintenance, detours, and new road marking assignments.
It's a lot of work for four people.
This crew works for Clark County. There are seperate Public Works Departments in Henderson, The City of Las Vegas, and North Las Vegas. The state is in charge of highway lines, besides the 215 Beltway.
