Keisha R. JonesMetro detectives have uncovered another scandal at University Medical Center. A Metro sting operation ended Wednesday evening with the arrest of a UMC employee. Keisha R. Jones, a nurse receptionist, is suspected of stealing tens of thousands of dollars in cash receipts.
Jones is in jail charged with theft and burglary.
Sources familiar with the sting tell Chief Investigative Reporter George Knapp that hospital administrators became suspicious of Jones and alerted Metro. Jones worked for UMC for three years, most recently at Ernest Lied Ambulatory Care Facility on Pinto Lane.
One of Jones' duties was to process payments made in cash for medical services. Detectives say she has been pocketing the cash for months, maybe even years, stealing as much as $12,000 a month. The total might be as much as $300,000.
The I-Team has learned that detectives found what appears to be stolen cash when they arrested Jones. According to one source, she confessed to officers that she'd been stealing from UMC for a long time.
More charges could be filed against Jones as soon as detectives examine the cash receipts she has been filing that add up to much less than what she actually took in.
