A construction worker was killed Monday morning at the 61-acre redevelopment site in downtown Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas Fire Department says the accident happened shortly before 8 a.m. as the worker was cutting a pipe at the Bonneville and Grand Central Parkway site.
The worker was cutting the concrete drainage pipe near a trench when the pipe fell on the man crushing him.
"Apparently he was trying to join two pipes and his function was to cut one pipe so they would fit. The pipe only fell 8 inches to 1 foot But it must have caught him off guard, because that's when the accident occurred," said Tim Szymanski, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue.
OSHA is handling the investigation. The worker's identity has not been released.
