Las Vegas NowFireworks Touch Off Wildfire in Southern Nevada
The National Park Service says fireworks illegally shot off a houseboat were to blame for a two-acre wildfire at Lake Mohave in southern Nevada.
Park service spokeswoman Roxanne Dey says the brush fire off Opal Cove north of Cottonwood Cove was put out at 1:30 this morning, about 6 1/2 hours after it began.
She says no structures were ever threatened, but she was unsure whether the houseboaters were cited. Fireworks are prohibited within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, including Lake Mohave.
The fire occurred a day after southern Nevada fire officials warned the public about the potential dangers of fireworks.
Dey says crews responding to the blaze had to contend with temperatures over 100 degrees last night.
