Judge Elizabeth Halverson (KLAS-TV file photo)Suspended district court Judge Elisabeth Halverson became ill today in the middle of her testimony before the Nevada Judicial Discipline Commission.
Today is day five of the hearings which will determine if the judge will be reinstated to the bench or permanently barred from office.
Judge Halverson suffered what her attorney called a "hypoglycemic" event this morning. Her attorney says the judge's blood sugar level became low, and she was unable to continue her testimony.
Judge Halverson spent more than an hour on the witness stand this morning. But when the regular morning break was taken at about 10 a.m. -- Judge Halverson did not return.
Judge Halverson had been speaking of her desire to be a judge -- and of an unsuccessful run for family court in 2004. She says it was the first business day after she filed to run for that position -- against the husband of now Chief Judge Kathy Hardcastle -- that her fortunes changed.
"Went work and was met by an armed bailiff who told me I could not enter the building -- that I was not allowed to come back in here -- and I was to call Chuck Short at 9 o'clock," said Halverson.
"What did you do when you were advised you were no longer permitted to come into the building?" asked her attorney, Michael Schwartz.
Judge Elizabeth Halverson: "I left the building's premises."
Judge Halverson was treated on the premises, and said she could return but concerned for her health, the commission decided to break for the day and continue Thursday at 1 p.m.
