Nevada has a state flower, state tree and even a state fossil, but it doesn't have a state insect, at least for now.
Fourth graders from around the state will take part in a contest to choose a state insect. Nevada is one of a handful of states that doesn't have an official insect.

The contest will be open to each fourth grade classroom and GATE classes. To participate, each class will need to submit a one-page, research-based essay supporting their nomination. The winning class will have the opportunity to send three of its students to Carson City to testify in front of the appropriate legislative committee.
