Injured Chinese Tourists Retain Major Law Firm

Updated:

Last month's deadly tour bus crash near Hoover Dam took seven lives. For the first time, the prominent lawyer who's representing the victim's is speaking out about this case.

A woman is still in a coma at UMC after suffering a traumatic brain injury. The lawyers are now involved are demanding justice.

Two weeks ago a trip from the Grand Canyon to Las Vegas would change lives forever for a group of Chinese tourists. The fun outing came to a catastrophic conclusion -- seven dead, ten injured, and one still fighting for life.

"It's obviously pretty tough and really, it's very difficult for me to meet with them during this period because they're all grieving and it's a very tough circumstance," said attorney Jim Vititoe with the Law Offices of Masry & Vititoe.

The victims and their families have retained the Law Offices of Masry and Vititoe, a California-based personal injury firm that's gained national prominence. This is the same firm that successfully handled the famous Hinkley water contamination case profiled in the movie Erin Brockovich.

Vititoe has handled other major bus accidents. He says this is one of the worst he's seen. "I think it's very unfortunate that our government hasn't taken some action requiring mandatory seatbelts in buses," he said. "If, in fact, seatbelts were required, I don't think there would have been anywhere the severity of injury that we see here."

While authorities conduct their investigation into what went wrong, the attorneys are doing the same, trying to find out what parties are responsible for this accident.

Vititoe says this is a case where negligence is involved. He says the driver being distracted could be a target of legal action, along with the bus manufacturer and the tour company.
