Gas Prices Continue to Climb

Updated:

New records are set almost everyday at the gas pumps. Just today, the national average for a gallon of regular is now at $3.51 a gallon. Here in the Silver State, drivers are paying about $3.59.

And here in the valley, commuters will have to spend an average of $3.52 a gallon. Some businesses' that depend on drivers are feeling the pain at the pump.

At one gas station, the price for regular unleaded is more than $3.50. But drivers are still filling up. It's prices like this that have many businesses across the valley raising their delivery prices.

Walking into Don Antonio's Pizzeria, cooks are working non-stop for their customers.

"Pizza, pasta, steak, seafood -- everything you can get in an Italian restaurant offer," said manager Tom D'Antonio.

Delivery has always been an option for customers and D'Antonio says more customers are ordering delivery now than ever.

"What's happening because of the gas prices people are getting more deliveries than less deliveries because people don't want to drive their cars right now," he said.

The days of free delivery are gone.

"We charge $1 for delivery. That will cover their cost per delivery for the amount of money they pay for the gas right now and we did that with the anticipation of gas going up," said D'Antonio.

Andrew Parks is one of the delivery drivers of Don Antonio's Pizzeria. "I think it's ridiculous. The $3.50 is really getting to people. It's hard being a delivery driver and having to spend that much money make you upset," said Andrew.

With the rising gas prices, the dollar delivery charge barely makes ends meet for drivers like Andrew.

"We get $1 delivery charge from everyone because of the driving it adds an extra $.70 to us so that's good," said Andrew.

In between keeping drivers on staff, and customers happy D'Antonio says he will keep doing whatever it takes. "People are having a tough time right now making their mortgage payment, paying the gas, going to work -- just trying to make ends meet. Everyone deserves a treat once in a while."
