Teen on Bike Killed by Car in North Las Vegas

Updated:

A 16-year-old boy was killed in an accident in North Las Vegas Tuesday afternoon. It happened at Alexander and Coleman just before 12:30 p.m.

Keanu Irving Lee Davila was taken to the hospital from this crash scene, but he died at UMC.

Crash investigators reconstructed exactly what happened. They say Davila was riding his bike close to the curb. Police say the 58-year-old driver of a silver Honda Civic veered to the right and hit him from behind. Three people nearby also saw what happened.

Davila was flung onto the hood of the car, hitting his head on the windshield. He was carried another 60 feet by the car before he was ejected out on the street.

"He said he didn't see him. He was wiping the sweat off his eyes. He didn't maintain his travel lane, veered to the right," said Jim Byrne,Crash investigator for North Las Vegas police.

The driver has agreed to a blood test. Officials say he will most likely be charged, pending the forensic test. It could be a misdemeanor or a felony charge.

Davila was not wearing a helmet. Officials say it would have helped. And with thousands of kids about to start school, police say this is another reminder drivers need to be extra careful and watch out for kids walking or riding their bikes.
