Lawyer Gets 15 Months in Tax Evasion Case

Updated:

A Las Vegas lawyer has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to failing to file federal income taxes over a five-year period.

Mark A. Lobello remained free after sentencing Monday by U.S. District Judge James C. Mahan. He's due to report to prison Feb. 2.

U.S. Attorney Gregory Brower says Lobello willfully failed to file federal taxes from 1997 to 2001 on more than $600,000 in income he earned while practicing business dispute, personal injury and divorce law in Las Vegas.

Lobello's lawyer did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

Lobello pleaded guilty Aug. 12 to one of five tax evasion charges in an indictment handed up by a federal grand jury in 2006.
