Metro Officer Involved in Shooting

Updated:

A man was killed Wednesday afternoon when Metro Officers opened fire on him. Police had been talking to the suspect about an ongoing investigation when he took off running.

Police say two detectives showed up to the suspect's job and he agreed to talk to them on a follow-up investigation for sex crimes against children and domestic violence. But he took off when officers tried to arrest him.

The suspect led police on about half a mile chase on foot. Police then tried to use a taser to stop him, but that didn't work.

Metro says it's still unclear if the suspect was armed, but they say the fact that he took off and fought with officers when they tried to arrest him, left them with no other option than to shoot.

Police say the detectives were not in uniform but identified themselves and the suspect agreed to talk to them.

"At the termination of the foot pursuit, a physical altercation occurred between one officer and the suspect and at the end of the that altercation the officer used deadly force," said Metro Captain Randy Montandan.

Police say they are looking for a gold colored four door car with tinted windows similar to a Metro squad car. They say that driver tried to block the suspect with his car, helping police. That driver took off before they could talk to him.

Metro says the children involved in this investigation were acquaintances of the suspects. He was being questioned for having sex with a minor under the age of 14.
