Health District Opened Two Clinics For H1N1 Vaccine Saturday

Posted: Updated:

With the H1N1 vaccine in such high demand the Southern Nevada Health district opened two clinics on Saturday to help limit the crowds that just one location had been getting in the past. But by the time the doors opened lines were already around the building at both locations.

At both the health districts main office ,and the 2nd clinic location they offered Saturday in Henderson, nurses and doctors worked quickly to move the lines of young children and pregnant mothers into the buildings. But they still remained very strict on who could and could not get the vaccine.

The priority group still only includes only those with small children, health care workers, and young children with underlying medical issues like asthma. Some who thought the shots were extended to others had to be turned away.

"It was wrapped around the building when we got here and half of them had to go home and we were told we were lucky because we got to get our shot today because we were in the age group and we have 2 children.", said Gabrielle Thomas, a parent who was waiting for her child to get the vaccine.

More than two thousand does of the flu mist and injections were given out at both clinics and parents who finally got through the long lines were happy for the piece of mind.

"H1N1 or swine flu season going on I just want them to be protected," said Heidi Ganadoa a parent of a child getting the vaccine.

The health district says they are encouraged by the large turn out they have had for these clinics because it means more people in the valley are vaccinated which is good for the overall heath of the community.
